Rantastic
I am getting very tired of people who believe Christianity is more about condemnation than about Christ. Being able to quote the bible does not give you the right to act on behalf of it’s creator. They manage to pick up on all the passages from the old testament that talk about what sends you to hell( which, for the record, includes eating pork/shellfish/unblessed animals, as well as wearing your hair in braids, cutting your beard, or wearing clothing of mixed fibers) however they seem to miss that whole last part of the book, that talks about this really awesome guy named Jesus and all the stuff he did (including but not limited to:being publicly humiliated and then beaten nearly to death, having the skin torn off his back, being nailed by the extremities to a wooden torture device, being stabbed and then ultimately dyeing of a literal broken heart). And he did all that for the very people who put him through all it in the first place.
I think the root of the problem stems from a lot of people who call themselves Christian really missing the point of Christianity…Christ. This guy was the SON OF GOD!!! and you know how he lived out the last 3 years of his life? Serving up some nice hot humble pie to the jewish community. He didn’t surround himself with the supposed servants of God either. This guy hung out with the bottom rung of society, taxcollectors, prostitutes, crazy people, lepers, beggars, gentiles(ie Muslims, hindus, non-jews in general). He did this because these people were not perfect. He didn’t force his divinity on them, but he allowed them to make a choice, because that is what God does9he created free will after all). And he loved them all, for exactly what they were, and they loved him in return. ‘Cause really, that’s what Jesus was about, love. Not condemnation, not death, not sentencing people to hell. He was about loving them, caring about them, caring about them enough to die to offer them salvation.
So I guess my fury comes from the people who call themselves Christians but all they do is spew hate. “God hates Muslims.” “God hates women who have abortions”.” God hates fags.” I have read the bible, cover to cover, numerous times and not one place have ever read that God hates his children, any of them. God hates sin, but he doesn’t hate the sinner. So if God doesn’t hate them, then you have no right to either. Besides, judgement of your fellow man is as much a sin as being anything else. God has no hierarchy of wickedness, where one thing is worse than another. Being a murderer is just as bad as being a liar or cheating on your significant other or being judgmental. And while we’re on the subject, here is a little info on how God seems to feel about judgement, according to the very book people are trying to use to support their hate-speech:
Matthew 7:1-2 t “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the same measure you use, it will be measured back to you”.
“Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. One man’s faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him. Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for The Lord is able to make him stand.”
“One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to The Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to The Lord and gives thanks to God. For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone. If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to The Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”
“For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that He might be The Lord of both the dead and the living. You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says The Lord, ‘every knee will bow before Me; every tongue will confess to God.’”
“So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another.”
And there are a who slew of other passages on judgement in the bible too, these are just a few of my favorites. Essentially, I guess what I am saying is that there are certain sects of christianity who are missing the point completely. Their angry, hateful, judgement is ruining the very mission of Christ. God put us here to spread his word, not his judgement. That’s his job, not yours. And besides that, if all people do is see you tearing others down, what incentive is there for them to believe in your God? All this hatered is doing nothing but push away the people who need God’s love the most.
So please, take a piece of humble pie. God is the creator of the universe. He doesn’t need you to do his job for him. He gave you a command and he expects you, as a christian, to follow it. And it isn’t to hate those different from you and it isn’t to love only those like you. It’s to love your enemy, love your neighbor, and be a fisher of men. And fish don’t bite when all you do shout at them to get in the boat.
